The mine operates under a Generation I Coal Cooperation Agreement which was awarded on 8 October 1990 and covers an area of 251 square kilometres.

Indominco^s coal concession spans over three different administrative areas : East Kutai regency, Kutai Kertanegara Regency, and Bontang Mayoralty.
